Some of you may not have met Johnny.  He was very active with the club until his health failed.  He was always friendly and never without his best friend Korkee.

John (Johnny) J. Dowd - POOLER - Johnny died Friday, October 7, 2011 at home with his family at his side. A lifelong resident of Pooler where he was born on 0ctober 2, 1932. Johnny was a graduate of Commercial High School in 1951, he retired from Union Camp after 40 yrs, and from the Georgia National Guard with 22 yrs of service with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He was a lifetime member of the Chatham Artillery and Savannah Volunteer Guards. He was also a member of Rothwell Baptist Church, the Cobra Club, Dixieland Cruisers, Union Camp Retirees Breakfast Club, and the Gulfstream Retirees Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Joshua and Evelyn Scruggs Dowd, his son John Jr. his brother Wilbur J. Dowd, and his daughter in law Linda Spilliards Dowd He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lucille C. Dowd, his son Stephen A. Dowd (Diane) of Pooler, his daughter Angela D. Coleman (Rex) of Colonels Island. Four Grandchildren, Joshua Coleman (Sarah), Nikkie D. Reagan (Erik), Jacob Coleman, Anthony Dowd. Four Great Grandchildren, Joshua II, Brady Faith, Noah, and Elliott. And his faithful companion Korkee. Visitation will be held at Fairhaven Funeral Home in Garden City Ga. On Sunday October 9, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. The Funeral service will be held at Rothwell Baptist Church in Pooler Ga. on Monday October 10, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. The body will lie in state in the church one hour prior to the service. Services will be conducted by Rev. Devin Bell. The burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Bloomingdale Ga. Remembrances should be made to Rothwell Baptist Church or the Savannah Humane Society.
